The first meeting of the intergovernmental commission between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan was held in Shusha

The 12th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan was held in Shusha city. The Commission noted the positive cooperation between the two countries on the development of international transport corridors and the creation of favorable conditions for increasing transit traffic between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Uzbek side expressed interest in the active use of the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway in order to increase the volume of cargo transportation between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, including transit.

 

The sides noted the importance of the participation of both states in the work of the international multimodal route "Asia–Pacific countries – China – Kyrgyzstan – Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Azerbaijan – Georgia – Turkey - Europe".

 

The Commission noted the importance of developing air connection between the cities of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. Currently, Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC operates regular flights to Tashkent, Samarkand, Urgench and Ferghana.

 

The Uzbek side expressed interest in studying Azerbaijan's experience in digitalization and transformation of the transport sector, construction of roads and airports.

 

Following the results of the 12th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, a protocol was signed.

 

The Commission instructed the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan, together with interested ministries and departments, to take the necessary measures to implement the decisions of the Protocol of the first meeting of the joint Working Group on cooperation in the field of transport and transit transportation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, to continue cooperation on further improving the competitiveness of transport corridors in transit transportation, take appropriate measures to eliminate bottlenecks in their territories along the Middle Corridor, continue cooperation to improve information exchange in order to ensure continuity of the supply chain and take measures to increase the volume of transportation of export-import cargo of Uzbekistan through Azerbaijan in 2023 to 1.5 million tons. And also, the Azerbaijani side proposed to consider the issue of obtaining a long-term lease on preferential terms of the infrastructure of the Baku International Commercial Sea Port.
