South Korea's experience in reforming the public transport sector is being studied

Within the framework of the joint project "Tashkent - Accelerating Investments in Low Emission Vehicles (TAILEV)" which is implementing in cooperation with the UNDP Uzbekistan, a study tour to the Republic of Korea was organized.

The main objective of the study tour was a familiarization of the specialists of the Ministry of transport with initiatives similar to Green Urban transport corridors, BRT system and e-bus operations for public transport implemented in the Republic of Korea (Seoul, Sejong).

During the official visit, consultative meetings were held with relevant experts from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea, Korea Transport Institute and Seoul Metropolitan Government.

Moreover, an extensive reforms that were implemented in the public transport sector were studied, in particular, the introduction of bus lanes (BRT), integrated electronic payment (T-Money) system, integrated revenue (pool) system, public transport infrastructure conditions created for the vulnerable sections of the population.

In addition, participants informed about the Korean experiences in supporting the purchase of electric buses for public transport fleets by the government and traffic-free "green" areas in Korean cities.

During the study tour team visited the Seoul Transport Operation and Information Service (TOPIS) established under the Seoul Metropolitan Governmentand got acquainted with the operational management of the city's transportation system, pilot projects of driverless vehicles, and the possibilities of real-time traffic and road data analysis.

During the meetings, it was agreed to establish cooperation on the exchange of knowledge and experience in the reform of the public transport sector in Tashkent, including the introduction of green transport corridors.
