Transit cargo transportation will be developed through the territory of Afghanistan

On August 26-27, 2023 the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan I. Makhkamov together with the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan I. Irgashev visited Afghanistan.


During the trip, an expedition took place along the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan road route with the Acting Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation of Afghanistan, Mullo Hamidullo Akhunzoda.


During the expedition, the situation on the Uzbekistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan highway, the Salang pass connecting Kabul with Northern Afghanistan (Mazar-I-Sharif), the Torkham border checkpoint on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan were studied.


At the bilateral talks, the issues of forming an international transport corridor for access through Afghanistan and Pakistan to the ports of the Indian Ocean, strengthening cooperation between the transport logistics enterprises of the two states, creating favorable conditions for international road carriers, including lifting restrictions on transit through Afghanistan and cargo transportation to other destinations were discussed.


Following the meeting, the parties agreed to mobilize all opportunities for the development of transit cargo transportation between the two countries.
