The next meeting of the Uzbek-Turkmen working group on transport issues was held on August 8-9, 2022.
At the meeting with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan A. Mominov and the Deputy Chairman of the "Turkmen Avtoulaglari" Agency V. Khodjanepesov and representatives of the organizations of the automobile, railway, and aviation systems of the two countries, the prospects of development of cooperation in the field were discussed.
In particular, the parties noted that they are interested in the complete restoration of the process of road transport between the two countries, as well as in simplifying the requirements for cargo transportation.
The Uzbek side made proposals to the Turkmen side on simplifying the requirements for issuing an entry visa to Turkmenistan for Uzbek drivers carrying out international cargo transportation by road and shortening the terms.
The parties exchanged views on the expansion of cooperation in the direction of development of transport corridors in order to increase the volume of cargo transportation in railway and road transport.
The Uzbek side emphasized that the transport corridors passing through the Turkmanboshi port are important for the entire region and that it is necessary to develop cooperation in this direction. The parties agreed to take measures to further modernize the railway infrastructure in order to increase the volume of cargo transportation in transit routes, as well as to provide discounts in order to reduce the cost of transportation.
At the meeting, the Uzbek side offered to activate the work on the organization of passenger transportation between our countries. The parties agreed to activate the work within the framework of the Ashgabat agreement with all participants of the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman transport corridor.
During the meeting, the parties discussed other practical issues related to international cargo transportation. At the end of the meeting, a corresponding report was signed.
